The prospect of this project design was exciting from the very beginning.
The original milk bar had become a warehouse-style storage vessel and was now to be converted into a home. With great character-filled bones to start with and a client brief that required very specific accommodation, designing this one was a joy.
Playfulness was explored with storage spaces created above ensuites and utility areas. These were balustraded in black mesh to provide spaces which have been used as music, study and play areas by the owners.
An internal courtyard was designed to allow for a protected open space and to let as much natural light in as possible. Whilst still retaining the face brick historical façade, the front door flows from the courtyard through living spaces to the bedrooms and service areas. Even signage was re used to keep that original feel throughout.
