This beach house on the Bellarine peninsula started as a dark, rectangular log cabin. Located in a very private court only 100m from the back beach of Point Lonsdale, the location provided the perfect setting to explore some fun family times.
The architecture coastal design concept was to retain the concrete slab and timber framing of the existing house, but re clad, reline and incorporate louvred glazing throughout to ensure those summer days cross breezes direct from the beach.
A garage with a roof deck was added to the front of the site, the perfect spot for an afternoon gin and tonic. One side of the garage includes a drop off zone for all things beachy, and an outdoor shower was incorporated to pass on the way, in the front gate to the entry of the house to ensure no sand inside!
Keeping the kids zone and the parent's zone separate, was imperative in the client brief and an oversized cavity slider door divides the spaces beautifully. It breaks up the more relaxed fun bunk rooms and kitchen, meals, living space with the parents and visitor bedrooms and more formal living areas.
A grassed area out from the louvred glass rooms leads up to the entertaining deck complete with a spa and pizza oven. A funhouse for a family of teens and their friends which still offers quiet spaces for mum and dad to entertain separately.
